Why I Hate Sharing My Picture Settings

When I bought my Panasonic TH-50PZ800U 3 1/2 years ago, I used Dave Katzmaier's settings(from his Cnet review) with spectacular results. There's no reason you couldn't provide your settings along with an instruction that they might need tweaking for each individual. No harm in giving readers a place to start.

I also don't provide them in reviews that I write. There is so much variation from unit to unit, as well as firmware updates that can change things, that using settings from someone else is more likely IMO to provide a worse image than a better one, but also leave the person using those settings with the impression that they have improved their image when it's really worse.

With the availability of test pattern discs (free and paid), as well as meter, software, and calibrators that can all easily provide a better picture for a range of costs, that you're far better off to go that way. Copying settings is no different than setting the image by eye: You might get something you like more than the defaults, but it's no more accurate than it was to start.
