I had a similar experience a few years ago. My freind just bought a new $4,000 Sony HDTV and upgraded his DirecTV box to a new HD DirecTV box so he could watch the World Series in HD. He was very excited for his new toys. But then he calls me at work and says something to the affect, I don't see any difference between the picture quality of what I had and what I have. So after work I went to his house and the DirecTV installer had hooked up his new HDTV and his new HD Sat. box with standard RCA composite cables. I was shocked and a little pissed that the installer didn't represent DirecTV better than that. Professional installer..... yeah right! Once I installed an HDMI cable to the two components my freind was able to enjoy his new toys the way they were meant to be.

It's easy to forget that the primary responsibility of custom installers is the transfer of money from the customer's wallet to theirs. The integrity of the listening experience is a distant third objective.

Unfortunately, raising a fuss is not as easy these days. With dealers/installers strategically located to monopolize their own districts, customers cannot afford to burn bridges should they require future local support.
