I think it's really interesting that consumers- and manufacturers- are comfortable running headlong into the future with no thought whatsoever given to safety. there is one very strong argument for maintaining terrestrial line of sight radio and tv services- to warn citizens when a disaster strikes. Until there is ubiquitous high-speed wifi at speeds that can stream sound and video, just eliminating radios entirely seems like sheer idiocy.

I wish car manufacturers would do what *I* would like them to do: start putting weather radios in all cars. I really don't give a damn what else goes in there. Every car should come with one at minimum. Especially if axing AM/FM is suddenly on the table.

Truly scary. But maybe neural nets will replace human drivers altogether, so that in the future everybody is a passenger. Then distraction wouldn't matter. This would also solve the problem of DUI. Google is on the case and these driverless cars are already legal in Nevada.

There will come a point in time when car accessories are mostly about connectivity and integration of smartphone apps and services, and that is an inevitable eventuality. Hopefully the regulators will notice the alarming potential dangers and put in place regulations to ensure road safety.
