Can you speak at all about any perceived loss when using a compressed transmission method like bluetooth?

I should do an article about that. Technically, there is some loss of quality when using Bluetooth A2DP vs. wired. However, it's not a difference that shows up in standard headphone measurements, and in my experience A2DP is transparent at least in the sense that it doesn't affect tonal balance or introduce readiliy audible anomalies.

Based on my experience so far with Bluetooth, and on the small number of Bluetooth vs. wired measurements I've done to date, it doesn't appear that in the case of small wireless speakers or relatively low-priced headphones, A2DP will have a significant audible difference vs. a wired connection. If you were to use it in a high-fidelity system (i.e., a really good set of headphones with a decent headphone amp, or a good set of speakers with high-quality amp/preamp), my guess is that you could detect a difference.

I'll find out and do an article on it.....

Thank you for the response, maybe my fear of bluetooth has been unjustified.

Thanks for the review Brent. I recently purchased some Sennheiser mm400 over-the-ear Bluetooth phones and have been very happy with them. I don't have audiophile hearing, but they sound as good as some in-ear wired phones to me. The added benefit of no loose wires around moving exercise equipment, or while working around the house is great.

If you do a Bluetooth article could you also include information on the upcoming 4.0 version ? I understand it has some major improvements over prior versions and Apple has begun to include the chip in some of their new devices.

Love the site and the regular updates to it, keep up the good work.
