Definitely not new tech here - got a flat antenna that works fine years ago. Came free with my artec 14a usb hdtv tuner which also gives you free OTA channels for your computer. Plus, it costs less then $50. Same caveat as the author - don't know if it is any good compared to this or standard bunny ears, but it picks up all the channels I need.

I installed a similar product, the Winegard FlatWave indoor antenna, and picked up a few extra channels over my old Yagi thats been on the roof for decades. Seems to be a little better built and always try to buy products made in the U.S. if possible.
