No, we haven't heard the end of this. Just as the RIAA tried to stop the resale of LPs and then CDs, they'll try to stop this as well.

Personally, when I purchase a digital download from someone, and not iTunes, but more like HDTracks, I make a DVD copy for backup and because I WANT physical media for when my hard drive crashes; and it will. But, were I to decide that my copy of Diana Krall was too much to listen to again, I'm not sure that I'd sell it to redig, I'd just remove it from my server, but keep the DVD copy. [oh if only we were able to download hi-res multichannel SACD or Blu-ray equivalent files and then I'd be storing them on Blu-ray].

I have moved about 25% of my my 500+ jazz CDs to a server, but I still have the CDs. I have moved some of my LPs to a server as well, but only after processing them through a Phase Linear 1000 series II autocorrelator and an SAE 8000 click and pop remover so that, at least in my opinion, they sound better than the source LP. [In fact, I reprocessed an HDTrack recording of Wes Montgomery through the Phase Linear 1000 to loss the tape hiss].

So, expect the industry to resist a redig effort and expect the electronic freedom guys to object to having a company being able to insure that you still don't have the tracks they just purchased.
