As we've been saying for a while now, 7.1's coming of age — and, with increasing frequency and utility, it's coming to home theaters.
With a growing list of releases taking advantage of those extra channels, why not take a chance with us and get yourself a copy of Puss in Boots on Blu-ray.
The Shrek spinoff, with Antonio Banderas voicing the swashbuckling feline, sports a new multichannel mix, and comes to us courtesy of the nice folks at Dolby. For more on that, check out the video to see what rerecording mixer Anna Behlmer (who we heard from recently regarding her work on Super 8) has to say about mixing for animated features and the advantages of working in the 7.1 format.

As usual, all you'll have to do to qualify to win is share your thoughts with us. This week's topic: Have you gone up to 7.1 in your own home yet? If so, what made you make the switch? And if you haven't (or you've remained resolutely two-channel), let us know your reasons for that too.

I often use headphones, and when I 'm not, I'm rarely paying full attention, and often when I am, I'm watching old movies or rebroadcasts of plays, etc., that aren't using full audio capacity anyway. So a soundbar, or my trusty NHT sub + zeroes, works probably beyond my capacity to appreciate.
I've been 7.1 for 5 or 6 years and when a movie is in that format the surround effect
is much more intense and full sounding, its just wakes up the room, love it
My current setup is 4.1. I don't have the right position for a center speaker, nor do I need it in my setup. The front speakers create the center image.
I do not have 7.1 in my home. We are in the middle of ongoing remodeling and do not have surround sound at this point
My current setup is Bluray to 5.1.I have been spoiled to say the least.I really appreciate & enjoy the level of clarity, realism and depth it adds to the whole movie watching experience.I just recently won tickets to an IMAX 3D viewing and the sound and screen were phenomenal. Good luck all,
Still 5.1...looking forward to upgrading when we finish the basement.
Have had so little opportunity to fully utilize my 7.1, Anthem AVM20 with analog outputs, but I still want it!
Actually I am up to 13.2 Channels since I am a electronics engineer... I still love each film nuance and seeing how my system interprets the sounds. I sure wish they had animated features like this when I was growing-up! Puss in Boots was always one of my favorite characters as a child and now there is an equally lovable character for kids or adults with this latest release! With each technological step the AV experience just gets more incredible!... What a wonderful way to escape the otherwise nasty realm of the current and scary real world in these difficult times.
For Home entertainment 7.1 is a step in the right direction bringing it to near cinema specifications, looking forward to the next generation 9.1 which should be awesome to listen too.
I have a 6.2 system and movies sound more envelloping with a back channel.
Great, now I need even more speakers!
I've had a 7.2 setup since '01 (initially using a Parasound C.S.E. 6.1 expander with two back channels) and was hooked from day one. Now utilizing a Pioneer Elite VSX 23-TXH with outboard Hafler amps and I couldn't be happier!
yo this is too cool
I have a 5.1 system and want to upgrade to 7
Negative, as my living arrangements pretty much limit me to headphones.
I own an onkyo 7.1 THX certified reciever, and very good quality speakers including klipsch dipoles for surround, but I have my viewing area set up for 5.1 because it would make me place my seating in a way that is not space advantageous.
5.1 only. No room to expand.
I have speakers set up for height, width, and now the rear. I only have a 7.1 receiver. I need a 9.1 to do them all at the same time!
Currently 5.2 on my setup (Sub & bass shakers).
Have a setup for 7.2 but I live in an apartment currently, when I get a bigger place I'll step up to 7.2
I haven't had the need for 7.1 yet
I love a great movie in wonderful surround sound!!! and 7.1 to boot!!!
no we haven't upgraded yet. not until we get some extra money
I haven't upgraded my theatre sound in the last 7 years, but I can't imagine ever not having surround sound again. It truly brings a europhy to the movie! Not to mention that the entire family gathers for movie night.
Upgraded, almost. Additional components are still in boxes (I've been busy! Or, should that be lazy?)
My current setup is 5.1 and I do not plan on upgrading to 7.1 due to the lack of space or areas to "hide" the speakers, as my wife prefers an uncluttered room.
I have had 5.1 for a long time now and truly love all that I hear. I really don't have the space to add more speakers so I'm truly happy with 5.1
My current setup is 7.1, have speakers set up for height, width, and the rear. I have a 7.1 receiver and 2 sub woofers a 3D TV and 3D DVD player. But I can't wait to hear sound more envelloping with a my back channels.
Still with 5.1 but I use phones quite a bit.
I love surround and I have helped educate so many other people to enjoy and respect the subtle sounds you can hear from various speaker setups - seeing actual 7.1 discs coming out is a welcome addition to fully utilize the rear surround speaker setups. I love surround so much and expect that to compliment the movies we are viewing at home to duplicate the theater experience I have two 7.1 setups one in the living room with our 47" widescreen and another one downstairs in the 'basement' with our theater room with a 83" projector. Looking forward to saving my dollars and getting a new Onkyo receiver so I can also enjoy the 9.2 setups with height speakers!
I'm still at 5.1. To get 7.1 I would need a new receiver and some better speakers. I hope to upgrade one of these days.
I upgraded my system to 7.1 about a year ago, along with the purchase of a HD 3D Plasma TV.
I can really rock the house and I love it!!
I haven't upgraded to 7.1 but I will when there is enough content to make a difference... Thanks
I really don't know what 7.1 is, as all we have are two big speakers hooked to an old 27" RCA TV in a room that is 12 feet by 8 feet. That is the set up that we have used for many years and it sounds fine to us! (Guess we need to catch up with the times!!)
I only have two speakers, so 7.1 would be overkill. Please accept my entry. Thank you.
I have a 6.1 setup now. Don't have the space for 2 rear speakers, as there is a stairway behind my listening area.

I love this movie! I don't have 7.1 yet though.....
had 5.0 but my remote died, kinda hard to use it, want 7.1 but no money to upgrade
I still have 5.1, due to the lack of a good place to put the extra set of speakers. I also can't imagine it making that much difference, since 5.1 is already awesome!
O yes I am at 7.2 and I love it! Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Jurassic Park Ultimate Trilogy and The Final Countdown sound Grate.
I have not set up 7.1 yet,but I will do it soon.
Still 5.1 here, but this could be the first 7.1 disc I have and might encourage me to upgrade. Equipment is capable, so just need to put the speakers up.
I am still 5.1. My room really is too small IMO to add the additional rears. My receiver has the outputs, but I have not purchased the additional yet, but could possibly be persuaded with this movie :).
No, we're at 5.1 and happy with it. Would upgrade to 7.1 if our equipment quit.
No surround sound at this point. Thank-you.
Wow my sound system ever sound so good with this blu-ray!!!!!
Yes, I've had a 7.1 surround system for some time now. It's great that we're finally getting some decent materiel to demo on my system!!
Haven't gone to 7.1 yet. I'm lucky my wife lets me have a 5.1 system much less 7.1. ;-)
Oh, yes, it's in the plans...but I must move all the existing audio gear from the dining room to the front room. And then take a look at the budget!
2.0 ¿Por qué? ¡No dinero!
