This week, we're giving away a pair of Miles Davis Trumpet in-ear headphones, courtesy of Monster Cable.
These did quite well in our celebrity headphone shootout (the listening panel felt that with a good fit, these were an "excellent sounding" pair of in-ears), and we think you should have a chance to check them out for yourself. And they come packaged with a copy of Miles' Sketches of Spain, so you won't find yourself stuck without something incredibly awesome to listen to.
In return, we're asking for a little input. All you have to do to qualify to win is leave a comment letting us know what sort of online coverage of headphones and headphone-related gear you'd like to see from Sound+Vision in the months to come. Want to know more about in-ears? On-ears? Noise-cancellers? Virtual surround and gaming? DACs? Portable headphone amplifiers? DIY kits? Think it's all a waste of time and we should be concentrating more on tower loudspeakers, the taller the better?
Tell us what's on your mind — we're all ears.
The winner will be chosen randomly from among those who leave on-topic comments below (you'll have to register — no anonymous commenters, we need a valid e-mail contact address to inform you of your win), so don't be afraid to speak your mind. We'll take entries until midnight (Eastern Time), on October 19th, and notify the winner via e-mail by Friday, October 21st. Good luck!

I'm keen to find out which earphones have the best comfort-to-quality-of-sound, specifically for use with my iPod.
To your question of what we would like to see in future articles, I'm currently interested in
inner ear headphones for gym use or other "moving" type activities. And, what I'll
call benchmarking, ...comparing something that "we" all know...such as the Apple ear buds that come
with so many Apple products, to other inner ear products that are out there. I don't have anything
like a Sennheiser product for gym time use, but quality ear buds have been on my ears....err...mind.
Doing a comparison article against a "known" would be nice, before investing hard-earned money.
Like most, I use inner ear headphones for the ipod and such. I also use over the ear phones
for DVD playing and stereo receiver listening. My son does sound recording as a side business, and I'm able to borrow one of his dozen over the ear high quality headphones at will. Wow...what a difference quality makes!
I would like to see more reviews of IEMs and open-ear headphones. I'm also curious to know about some of the newly released surround processors.
I enjoy the reviews you do of headphones, as well as other hi-fi (and lo-fi) gear, especially when you compare two or models of roughly the same type & price range. I would like to see an easily searchable database of past reviews of headphones, speakers, etc. contained in past issues. Also, updated (short) reviews of products you have covered in the past when a change in said product happens or a new comparable product is introduced. "We recommend _______ for _______ users because ________."
You, of course, would need to fill in the blanks.

When i saw the hifi countdown along with the celebrity shootout, i felt a kind of relief that i found a website that coherently and in a very straightforward way critiqued headphones. If the magazine could release an economic countdown of quality headphones available maybe like (20-70$ range and 70-150$) and also updates and reviews on anything high quality, or visually appealing, it would make my day.
I would like to see range of headphones $50 or less that produce good sound reviewed. I'm especially interested in small over the eas, comfortable, not noise cancelling that willwork with laptop, ipod.

Given that there is so much subjectivity in the selection of headphones, or speakers, for that matter, and that consumers can't do too many side-by-side comparisons in stores because not all stores carry the same brands, I would like some articles on how to take your reviews and recommendations and apply them to the shopping process. How do we read the article and then go from store to store and figure out what we want, when we can't listen to everything? Also, when you do "shoot-out" types of articles, it would be helpful to keep the candidates within a certain cost of each other. It is difficult for the reader to know what to do when you say you like a $450 dollar pair of headphones better than a $100 pair. We might expect that, but it is difficult to quantify the difference in quality just by reading your own subjective opinion. Shoot-outs might also benefit from being of like kinds, such as a shoot-out of ear-buds, or on-ear, or over-ear, but not mixed.
It would be nice to see more coverage of mid-fi full size headphones, as well as amps and dacs that go with them. Maybe from the range of the ATH-50 all the way up to the HD650? A lot of the reviews out there are only focused on the high end stuff like the HD800 which is way out of our price range. But if there are that many young people that can drop $200-300 on Beats or Bose, then there are certainly audiophiles who would spend that much on a pair of quality headphones.
I'm glad you all are considering covering headphones/earphones. What I've personally found missing consistently in the reviews of headphones is what exactly to look for when listening to them and the tradeoffs vs the review set of headphones and speakers. For example, to oversimplify, with speakers, you have imaging, depth and width of soundstage, tonality/timbre, bass, etc. Well, with headphones, what tradeoffs does this pair give me? So if it's in-ear then I have XYZ happen to imaging, ABC happen to soundstage, etc. I have both over the ear and in-ear headphones and there's a difference for sure and it's in the *kind* of headphone as much as the headphone itself. For in-ear, I like to also know about how much natural "noise canceling" it does natively with the flanges or pieces. I have the B&W headphones and the bass is significantly affected by how snug it fits in your ear. Love to see this and the feedback you all want. Good luck and look forward to seeing the coverage. OH and one more thing.... How different do the headphones sound in an iPOD/iPhone/iPad and a stereo system and even plugged into a Mac laptop. We all know that different kinds of headphone amps make a difference. Knowing where the headphones are best used makes a huge difference. Now, we're using headphones for all sorts of things so knowing these little nuances in a consistent structure for each review is really helpful.
Wireless headphones. Thank-you.
For me, headphones and earbuds will remain a less important component of my sound system.
I use earbuds only when I'm exercising; Out riding the bike, walking or running. I would like to have good ones but can't justify the $$ when sound quality is not important on the road.
Where I want to ensure I get the best is in my home theatre. Reviews of tower and in-ceiling speakers would benefit me the most.
I'd like to hear more about in ear speakers, but please look at some lower end, more affordable ones as well. thanks.
I would like to see a test of regular vs. noise cancelling headphones.
I love the Miles Davis Headphones for me, but my boss is a musician, so I am definitely going to tell him about these headphones and steer him to this website. I would like to have more information for the virtual surround and gaming headphones. My daughter and son-in-law love gaming, and it would be great to give them each headphones for Christmas. I need more information though, as high price doesn't always mean the best equipment, so how about coverage detailing performance, durabililty, and price?
SOUNDS GOOD!!!!
I'd like to see more coverage on wireless in-ear headphones. With so many options now for bluetooth etc, would be good to see what is out there that is wireless and noise cancelling.
Reviews and information on wireless headphones that will work with all TV's, DVD/BluRay players, CD/stereo equipment for those who like to listen at night without creating noise that keeps awake partners/roomates/nieghbors etc. Also for those who work 3rd shifts and their partners want to watch TV/ play music etc while you try to sleep during the morning. These headphones would be of great benefit to households, more so if they have a reasonable wireless distance for those who move about while listening. Just a simple thought that would benefit many people and with today's technology should not really be a problem to design/manufacture etc at reasonable cost and price.
I already own Bose speakers for my Computer and would love to have a pair of headphones that would be just as great sounding as my Bose. Love to listen to my music while doing work from home and I think these Headphones would certainly serve the purpose.
The last time that I bought a pair of over the ear headphones I was able to test them out in a store. However, with in ear phones it is impossible to test them out in the store because it is unsanitary. That is why I think that I would like to hear some test results from some experts about in ear phones.
A little bit more on quality of DACS on "flagship" smartphones..and music apps.
There are so few reputable websites that provide your kind of information. Therefore, I would love to see more timely reviews of this type of equipment. Headphones, bluetooth speakers, mobile accessories (within reason). Why does it take so long to have a review show up on the site? I see Bose has a new bluetooth speaker — that should be reviewed on your site within weeks. That's what would drive me to your site more often! I enjoy reading about $4000 surround speakers in the magazine. But I only get to put one set in my basement every 20 years:). I like to buy new $300 headphones a lot sooner! More timely please.
Over-ear headphones
Personally, I only use in ear speakers so that is what I would be interested in reading about. But y9u never know. You may sway me to something else.
I think that expecting ear buds to sound like good headphones is unrealistic. Having said that I do like good sound from my earphones. It's not worth spending a lot of money to chase that last little bit of fidelity in a device that is inherently limited.
I would like to see a mix of high-end and low-end headphone reviews. I buy in the low-end and am interested in in-ear and noice cancelling capabilities. I'm always interested in ear health as well -- will I always have some ringing in my ears? I spend a lot of time listeneing to audiobooks, so I'm interested in that kind of basic use as well as music.
I always enjoy the chance to win a well-reviewed product from a respected brand I already trust! :-)
I haven't found a pair of headphones I love, but I am pretty happy with my Sennheisers. I have two sets of on ear px100 for listening to music at work and on the go. I have a set of over the ear 900 series for when I am focusing on the music and the kids are studying. What I really want to find is something comfortable while wearing glasses that can handle jogging and a little rain and last more than a year or two. Of course it has to sound good too. If I could get custom ear molds that work with a model under $300 I'd spend the money because I have never found an in-ear model that was truly comfortable. In the end though If I can I listen to music on big tower speakers like my Infinity Interlude il60s.
I would like to see more on Noise-cancellers, DACs, and DIY kits.
Thanks.
I would love to see more with over-ear headphones. However please keep the field to those around $100. I like my Sony MDR-V6 units. I wish the foam surrounds were more durable.
I'm a big fan of head phones in general and in-ear phones in particular. My old Shure E2C pair are showing their age after thousands of hours of use and have had several repairs made to the cable due in part to my mis-treatment of them. So with that being said, I"m not only interested in knowing the price point and quality but also the durability of in-ear headphones. I'd also like to know more about emerging in-ear products that make use of blue-tooth. Not having to deal with that pesky cable would certainly enhance my usage experience.
more options for budget priced earphones that still have decent sound and other features
What I have found is that the performance of a headphone is greatly affected by the device used to play them through. I would like to see headphones that are reviewed based on the sound source. So headphones that sound good pushed by a phone or ipod. Then phones that are driven by a computer or home audio source. The two are not the same, some phones only sound good when driven by a more powerful source but when plugged into a phone or ipod they fall flat. It would be good to know what headphones worked best. Also, durability, how about a long term revisit of a set of headphones that have been used for a while, say a few months. I have a terrible problem with headphones that only last a few months before the wire breaks inside or the driver falls apart. I am old school in that I still enjoy a good stereo system with a strong analogue music source and a great pair of speakers.
more about portable headfone amps and DAC
I use in-ear headphones for my iPod so any reviews would be great. I'm an on-ears headphone guy at home so more info about them and headphone amps would be great also. I like not just rating but compairisons.
Im a drummer and id like to hear some input on affodable but great in ear and out monitor ear phones for drummers.
I would like to see the new Sony wireless stereo headset for playstation
The Miles Davis Trumpet In-Ear Headphones sound it awesome base on the review and I love the blue/gold color they looked professional:)
I like reasonable price headphone gear. Under $150 for in-ears, under $250 for over the ears. What I'd really be interested in though is ergonomics. With most hi-fi gear this isn't an issue for me (I only set up my speakers so often), but I take the headphones off and on several times throughout the day, they get stuffed into a pocket, the cords get wrapped up/tangled, they need to be durable, weather resistant to a degree (for those of us who don't live in So Cal), etc. These tend to take a back seat to "comfort and fit" in a lot of professional reviews, which is sad because it can really make or break a set of cans.

As a DJ, I am using headphones constantly. As an audiophile, when I'm not working, I still expect the same quality or better, PLUS comfort. Ideally, I would like seeing side by side comparisoms with both pro and home sets as well as comparisoms between in ear, and over the ear. It would be great to know also the less expensive alternatives. I have an expensive over the ear set, but prefer a less expensive set I own over them. I would like to not make he same mistake with in ears... Of course, winning a pair would be great!
As a student, I'd like to see headphones on the under $100 side. I love listening to music but, I these Apple headphones are'nt doing it for me ;). I'd also like to see if a headphone's fit has anything to do with the sound quality it produces. I've seen many people complain because they bought a certain pair of headphones and they can't enjoy it full quality because it doesnt fit them properly. Hope this helps.
Man those look cool!
I would love to an article going over budget hi-fi systems with comparisons to expensive hi-fi systems.
I believe you have to keep us informed about it all; from the tower speakers to the in ears, I will not put on any phones when listening to the Technics 1600 playing Herbie Mann(Yellow Fever),Wes Montgomery(Gas Series from MGM),and Weather Report(Tale Spinning), I do abide by the house rules when any grandkids are over and listening to the 5.1 Boston Acustic set-up on the computer, playing the Bose Wave,or clinging to the Definitive Technology Towers, begging for a few more db's.I know diferent individuals prefer to have the in ears when active, the top quality noise cancellers when concentrating, relaxing, and the best high fidelity floor speakers to fill a room when you want just music,no phone, conversation, or useless chater. Time is delicate as I have come to know it,so I pray, finish work, chores, get something to eat, and try to listen to one of those gifts that God gave us called music, so please, keep us informed, because we all need various set ups at different times.
I would like to see an article comparing hype headphones like Beats by Dr. Dre and noise-cancelling headphones by AKG and Sennheiser. Yes the Beats are stylish but when it comes to quality and how they sound, are they a good option? or do they not sound to great when compared to some non-mainstream headphones by reputable companies.
I think this would be a great topic because a lot of my friends in college enjoy the line of headphones by Dre but they've never even heard of AKG.
I would like to see reviews of noise cancelling headphones of high fidelity,
Sorry for the duplicate posts. I was having an issue with the Captcha showing an error on my side. Feel free to delete the duplicate and again, sorry 'bout that.
Not certain how much more coverage of in-ear 'phones will make much of a diff in the cost/benefit ROI.. are there that many sources of components that some dozens of pairs aren't just going to be different brand names and SKUs coming out of the same factory in China? Quality on-ear sets deserve time and words, as do lower-priced surprises from the direct sellers, and here I mean all product types, not just 'phones.
In-Ear headphones are what I buy most frequently, so I'm often looking for reviews to go by. I'm not one to spend hundreds of dollars on one pair though, so reviews of sub-$100 sets are most relevant to me.
How about a review of the best headphones for all-around use when wanting to be able to multitask. So which headphones do the best combo of providing great sound (worthy of the asking price) and the convienence of being able to fairly easily answer phone calls whether at home or when traveling.
Bring back the annual buyers guide issue. I know that is a lot of information to compile but I liked having it to refer to, to compare apples to apples on components & speakers.
