Ha! Look at those dorks in the picture! What dopes! They are wearing those crazy cardboard glasses to watch 3D TV! Idiots!
Haven't they heard that Philips is showing a 56-inch Quad Full 3D HDTV? And, you don't have to wear glasses (at least the dorky 3D kind) to get the 3D effect? In particular, at the Biz-Ex conference in Hollywood, Philps is showing its newest gee-whiz TV, indicating that it's serious about the whole 3D TV thing.
Technically, at least from a marketing standpoint, the TV is called a Quad Full Autostereoscopic 3D HDTV. With 3,840 x 2,160 resolution, it's sure to look good. Although, in previous versions, the screens had a limited viewing angle.
Availability? Price?
Philips has not announced availability or price. But the whisper price is around $25,000. No problem, I'm sure it will be easy to get a subprime mortgage to finance that.
Hey! Wait a minute! That's me in the picture — the tall guy in the second row. Gee, I feel like such a dope. On the other hand, those dinosaurs really did jump out of the screen at me. —Ken C. Pohlmann
[ED NOTE: KEN C. POHLMANN ISN'T REALLY THE TALL GUY IN THE SECOND ROW. HE'S ACTUALLY THE LITTLE MUSTACHIOED MAN IN THE FIRST ROW.]
