It's the one-two punch TiVo customers have been waiting for but for now it's only available through Comcast in the Boston area. TiVo's recently announced deal with Comcast marks the first time cable subscribers can tap into TiVo features--including WishList searches, TiVo Suggestions and Season Pass--via their cable DVR and have access to on-demand movies at the same time. TiVo advanced features will be available to Boston-area Comcast HD DVR customers for an additional $2.95 a month.
The deal only gets sweeter next year when Comcast plans to offer more than 6,000 movies a month on demand, with more 3,000 of them in HD.
That's the positive news. Elsewhere, we've been hearing the trumpet
calls of Digeo's Moxi digital video recorders service for some time
now, but ambitious plans to launch retail versions early this year were
shelved at the same time the company laid off half its workforce. Moxi
recorders are currently offered to several hundred thousand cable
subscribers through Comcast, Time-Warner Cable and Charter
Communications.
Gone are the much hyped and delayed
Moxi Multi-Room HD DMR and the Moxi Home Cinema Edition DMR. Instead,
Digeo will focus on another consumer DMR, which the company says it was
developing along with its canceled projects. Details about Digeo’s new
retail product will be announced later in the year, but we'll believe
