I have had a Hopper now for a few months (the week it came out) and don't have a bad thing to say about it. I have had little to no issue with it. Plus the wife likes it and thinks it is easy to use which is always a bonus. I will tell you, I am able to change the input on my TV's. I have three TV's, (an old DLP Samsung, LCD Samsung and new Toshiba LCD) and I am capable of changing the input on all three. It takes a little tweaking in the settings, but it does work. Go Menu >settings>Remote Manager> Limited Mode>Off. In Limited Mode, you will only be able to use
the POWER, MUTE, and VOLUME buttons. By turning limited mode 'off' the other buttons, including the input button, will now work.

Informative article.
Makes DISH sound great.
I like the huge amount of volume available to record shows, and that you can record off several channels at once.
One possible drawback you forgot to mention though: I have heard that DISH has dropped the channel AMC. To make sure I am not wrong on this, or to check to see if things haven't changed (since some of you may be reading this at a later date when they've bowed to pressure and re-added the channel), I recommend you check it out for yourself first before deciding, as I'm just going based on what the website says at this moment. I don't know if any other channels you might like would be missing from the DISH lineup of options.
www.AMCtv.com website currently says that DISH doesn't carry it, and it recommends to its' viewers that they switch from to a new provider if they have DISH. This channel carries many very popular, top notch tv shows, such as Mad Men, The Walking Dead, and Breaking Bad, just to name a few.
Let's face it: these are not fringe shows with some small cult status. These are major league shows.
Breaking Bad has won numerous Emmy's, for good reason.

DISH needs to get their act together and add AMC to the mix.
As wonderful as the technology is, it stinks if it doesn't offer all the shows one would want to see.
So if someone reads this article and is considering DISH, first find out if they carry all the channels and shows you are going to want to watch.
