With the LG's User Mode and Warm color temperature preset selected, its grayscale tracked within ±713 kelvin of the 6,500 K standard from 30 to 100 IRE - a below-average level of performance. Adjustments made to the red, green, and blue settings in the set's color temperature menu improved grayscale performance, resulting in ±341 K tracking from 30 to 80 IRE. Color-decoder tests revealed a +10% red error for both the HDMI and component-video inputs. The set's HDTV color points, meanwhile, were very accurate.

Overscan - the amount of picture area cut off at the edges of the TV's screen - measured 6% for 1080i/p signals, which is a higher than average amount. The set displayed 1080i and 720p test patterns with full resolution via its HDMI and component-video connections, although a slight amount of edge enhancement was visible on both inputs, even with the sharpness control zeroed out. Screen uniformity was excellent from both on- and off-center seats.

The 47LB1DA failed 2:3-pulldown tests on both the standard- and high-def Silicon Optix HQV discs, but it appeared to have no problem with 2:3 processing when displaying movies from ordinary DVDs and high-def discs. The LG's XD noise reduction option helped to smooth out grainy pictures but also removed a considerable amount of fine detail from high-definition programs.
