I have been an Opeth fan for a few years now and am pleasantly surprised to see S+V interview the charismatic frontman of this exceptional group! I just saw them in concert for the second time a couple of months ago in Seattle for the Heritage Tour and thoroughly enjoyed the show. Mikael really knows how to have fun with the crowd. When the album first came out, though, I wasn't sure how I felt about it. I was ready for a heavy album like Ghost Reveries. But after listening to Heritage a few times I have really come to enjoy it for what it is. I believe Mikael calls each album an 'observation' and I would have to agree. I know some people out there who are not happy with this direction Opeth has taken but that's OK. You can't please everyone, but if you are truly a metal fan with an 'open mind' you can enjoy this album just as much as if it were full of death growls. Opeth has done several clean vocal only songs throughout their career and even have one other all clean vocal album in Damnation so this is nothing new for Opeth. If you are a metal fan give this album a spin. If you are not a metal fan, you still need to give this album a spin. The production value of this album is awesome and makes me wish I had a turntable with this album on vinyl. Either way I got another Opeth album to enjoy and I already can't wait for the next observation!
