Everyone's doing it. Frequent flyer programs for airlines, frequent shopper loyalty cards for the drugstore, grocery store — even the Flying J Truck Stop I went to today (don't ask) asked me if I was enrolled in their rewards program.
Sony Pictures is jumping in, with a program that could spur some Blu-ray business. The new Sony Pictures Blu-ray Club gives consumers points when they register a new Blu-ray disc online, using the BD-Live feature. This could actually encourage consumers to purchase the Blu-ray version of a movie over the DVD, since they'll get points, plus all the obvious advantages of Blu-ray.
When does it go live?
Right now! Adam Sandler's latest release, You Don't Mess With the Zohan is the next Sony Picture title due out with BD-Live.
These "points" can be used to redeem toward sweepstakes entries and other features in the already-existing Sony Rewards program. The cost to enroll? Nothing.
Here are the benefits to registering:
"Now that you made the move up to Blu-ray, you should enjoy all the
benefits from this technology. Blu-ray discs can easily be registered
on your home HDTV, and each time you register your disc, you can earn
100 points toward great Sony Products. Also, each time you register 10
Blu-ray titles, we will automatically send you a $10.00 coupon that can
be used to increase your Blu-ray library. Plus, each time you register
a disc you will receive an entry into our monthly Blu-ray Registration
Sweepstakes to win a Sony HDTV!
"The Rewards don’t stop here. As a Sony
Pictures Blu-ray member you can take advantage of all the benefits of
Sony Rewards where you can win a great prize everyday, get in on our
weekly special deals, participate in huge savings during our auctions,
plus you can win your own wish list of products up to $5,000 — and up
to $10,000 for Sony Card holders. Then each month we also have a
fabulous Dream Prize Sweepstakes for you to win — just check it out
while you’re on the site today."
