Record Store Day recap

Ken Richardson tells us about his RSD 2011 take — and the joy of coming across a prize by accident.

At the Princeton Record Exchange in Princeton, New Jersey, I got two of the Record Store Day exclusives, both EPs:

• The Decemberists: Live at Bull Moose (CD)

• Kate Bush: Hounds of Love (10-inch pink-marble vinyl)

In addition, I found these:

• Renaissance: Scheherazade and Other Stories (2010 reissue CD with bonus DVD)

• Annie Haslam (Renaissance lead singer): Woman Transcending (2010 CD)

• Steven Wilson/Lasse Hoile: Insurgentes, the documentary on DVD

My best find, though, I came across completely by accident, while heading down an aisle:

• XTC: Apple Vinyls (13 7-inch vinyl singles comprising Apple Venus and Wasp Star)

It's the best not because of its vinylness, but because of its sheer collectible-boxed-set coolness.
