It was a blow to Apple TV owners when they realized their beloved extenders couldn't tap into the hot new rental service from iTunes that was announced at Macworld Expo last month. A fix is now available, according to Macworld, which says "if you check Software Update from the Settings menu on your Apple TV, the new software should be available for download and installation."
The rental feature, which gives you a 24-hour window to finish a movie
once you've started watching, offers movies for $2.99-$4.99 depending
on video quality and release date. Turning iTunes into a video rental
store was one of the upgrades found in "Apple TV Take Two," which Apple
CEO Steve Jobs announced at Macworld Expo last month. Cool add to the deal: users can download the
movies without having to boot up a Mac or PC first.
Also new in the upgrade, which is free to Apple TV owners, is access to
photostreams hosted on Flickr and .Mac Galleries. Prices for Apple TV
are $229 for the 40GB model and $329 for the 160GB version.--Rebecca Day
