Sony has re-established itself as a visionary TV maker with its SXRD models (see "Editors' Choice"), a variation of the difficult-to-manufacture LCoS technology. The first SXRD front projector, the Qualia 004, cost about $30,000. Now you can get the same tech for a third of the price in the VPL-VW100 SXRD front projector ($10,000). Thanks to 1,920 x 1,080-pixel resolution, the projector can render every scrap of detail in a 1080i high-def signal. It can even accept 1080p signals, if you can find 'em - or if the upcoming high-def discs support the ultra-HD format.
