NAD C 725BEE Stereo Receiver

Test Report: An awful lot of performance in a small package.

TEST BENCH

Stereo Performance
All data were obtained from analog test signals applied to the C725BEE's CD inputs. Reference input level is 200 mV; reference output is 1 watt into 8 ohms. Volume setting for reference level was approximately 11 o'clock. Results show worst-case figures where applicable.

Output at clipping (1 kHz into 8/4 ohms)
1 channel driven: 81 /117 W (19.1/20.7 dBW)
2 channels driven: 62.6/58.9 W (18.0/17.7 dBW)

Distortion at 1 watt (THD+N, 1 kHz)
8/4 ohms: 0.005/0.006%
Distortion at Rated Power (THD+N, 1 kHz)
8 ohms: 0.005

Noise level (A-wtd): -93.1 dB (dBw)
Frequency response: <10 Hz to 20 kHz +0.1, -0 dB (-1.6 dB at 200 kHz)

NAD's ultra-simple little stereo receiver performed pretty much as advertised, with power that was comfortably over its specs and outstanding noise and distortion performance. The slightly reduced power into 4-ohm loads with both channels driven suggests a limitation of steady-state power-supply current, further suggesting cost-efficient design directed more toward real-world signals (music, dynamic waveforms) than test-bench ones (sine tones). -- Danny Kumin
