MUSIC REVIEW: Outkast

Idlewild
LaFace/Zomba
Music •••½
Sound ••••

When they made 2003's SpeakerBoxxx/The Love Below, essentially two solo works, Big Boi and André 3000 proved that they didn't need teamwork to create a remarkable album. But on the soundtrack to their movie, Idlewild, they remind us that exciting things can still happen when they do pair up (if momentarily). "Mighty O" finds them rapping on the same track for the first time in 6 years, swinging the beats like Cab Calloway. The rest ranges from the funky marching-band drums on "Morris Brown" to the old-school swagger of "Idlewild Blue." Sometimes dazzling, always different.
