MUSIC REVIEW: Erase Errata

Nightlife

The first thing you notice is the sound, less brittle than that of 2001's Other Animals and 2003's At Crystal Palace. This is partly because Erase Errata has contracted into a Gang of Three, now that guitarist Sara Jaffe is gone - replaced by EE's own Jenny Hoyston, who still sings but drops her trumpet for a fatter ax. That said, the wonder remains Ellie Erickson's bulldozing bass playing. Alas, despite welcome focus on cuts like "Giant Hans" and "Tax Dollar," Nightlife is better at night, live, where skronky Errata can do no wrong.
