MUSIC REVIEW: Eagles of Death Metal

No, you won't find this Josh Homme side project sharing gigs with, say, Decapitated. On their second offering, the Eagles remain as unmetallic as ever, concentrating on fun, raunchy, flypaper-catchy rawk. On "I Gotta Feeling (Just Nineteen)," sleazy licks and stripped-down drums complement the groovy, glammy falsetto of Homme's longtime bong buddy Jesse Hughes. The band recorded Death by Sexy in just 12 days, and it shows in a good way: "Solid Gold" is a lo-fi ditty featuring a "Magic Bus"-like intro and twangy strumming, and the Eagles fly recklessly on "I Want You So Hard (Boy's Bad News)." (Check out the video with Jack Black and Dave Grohl.) Still, a little Cookie Monster roar would've been cool.
