Bob Seger's first studio album since the Pleistocene (okay, 1995) turns out to be an honorable if largely tepid affair. Some of it (the AC/DC-ish "Wreck This Heart") is harder-edged than you might expect. But despite the occasional sharp lyric and the absence of a potential car jingle, the feel here is mostly, well, generic, from the familiar cover logo to "Wait for Me," a pedestrian ballad that Seger garnishes with an unironically faceless guitar solo. Nice high-energy exception: "Real Mean Bottle," a honky-tonk duet with Kid Rock.
