MUSIC REVIEW: Allison Moorer

Allison Moorer's first collaboration with producer/husband Steve Earle is supposed to sound blissful, but something feels odd - starting with the (unintentionally creepy) storybook cover art. The first four tracks, all meant to be empowering, each open with a self-critical lyric. And her love song for Earle, "If It's Just for Today," is too self-denying for comfort. But the real problem? Her voice doesn't mesh with his patented folk-rock sound. Only the title track harks back to Moorer's own heartland rock.
