Hi, Wes. I've played around with the Studio Six Digital stuff (it's linked in the article) and like it a lot, although I don't have any real experience with it. There's absolutely no reason you couldn't do this on an iPad. As long as the analyzer has at least 1/12th octave resolution, it should work fine. Even 1/6th octave is useful.
