DVDs: Little Black Dress

A look at two TV Spy series on DVD: Alias and La Femme Nikita

One is blonde, the other brunette. One radiates as an earth mother, the other is everyone's favorite big sister. But when the chips are down, each babe is a trained killing machine who can kick terrorist ass. In LA FEMME NIKITA: Season 3 (Warner; Series •••½, Picture/Sound ••••, Extras •••½), Peta Wilson works for a loosely defined government agency called Section One, run by a psychotic, steely- cold megalomaniac known as Operations (Eugene Robert Glazer). In ALIAS: Season 4 (Touchstone; Series •••½, Picture/Sound ••••, Extras ••••), Jennifer Garner works for a special division of the CIA, run by her sister's father (and her former enemy), Ron Rifkin. Both suspenseful spy series also have strong casts, devilishly paranoid plots, high production values, and a secret-operative love interest named Michael.

Can't choose between these sets? Well, each has images that are sharply defined and rich in color, sound that will exercise your entire system, and extras that include commentaries, deleted scenes, featurettes, and even blooper reels. Best to just get them both.
