DVD REVIEWS: Wire in the Blood: Seasons 1 & 2

Dr. Tony Hill (Robson Green) is a clinical psychologist and profiler who can get inside the criminal mind. When he pairs up with Chief Inspector Carol Jordan (Hermione Norris), there seems to be no heinous crime in Northern England that the team cannot solve. Like a mystery novel you can't put down, this absorbing, graphic TV series will hold you captive for each 90-minute episode while the doc and the cop work their way through their intense, frequently bizarre cases. Images in the three episodes of Season 1 and the four of Season 2 have the typically muted colors of British TV. Sound is clear, ideally balancing the dialogue, the numerous effects, and the often weird (but always intense) music by the Insects. Extras include brief interviews and text biographies on author Val McDermid and the stars. [NR] English, Dolby Digital stereo; full frame (1.33:1). Season 1: three single-layer discs. Season 2: four single-layer discs.
