In Preston Sturges's last great comedy, lionized symphony conductor Rex Harrison imagines various endings (including murder) to his marriage to Linda Darnell, whom he suspects of cheating. The image is clean, crisp, and richly detailed throughout. Thankfully, Sturges's wondrous dialogue and the all-important music are clear in this mono soundtrack. There's a scholarly commentary about the film's creation and reasons for its box-office failure, a Terry Jones introduction, and an interview with Sturges's widow Sandy. [NR] English, Dolby Digital mono; full frame (1.33:1); dual layer.
