DVD REVIEWS: Cursed

Director Wes Craven and writer Kevin Williamson have adapted their patented Scream formula - contemporary, wisecracking hottie stars in cool horror-movie peril - to make this modern Wolfman retread. Unfortunately, the magic is marred by laughable special effects, especially the Tasmanian Devil-like creatures. The images - dark 2.35:1 widescreen compositions with pale neon colors - take a back seat to the coming-at-ya jolts of the Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack. Extras, including a cast-and-crew commentary and four documentaries, are like the script - strictly déjà vu. [NR] English and French, Dolby Digital 5.1; letterboxed (2.35:1) and anamorphic widescreen; dual layer.
