Throughout this DVD's extras, the various participants repeatedly boast that Mr. & Mrs. Smith features "the two most beautiful people in the world." But only once does the director admit a conscious decision to forgo an actual plot. That leaves only the movie's central gag, which is fine as far as it goes: A bored suburban couple (Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie) discover that each is secretly an assassin, so they vent their mundane frustrations on each other with ferocious, decidedly urban violence. That's pretty much it, apart from two distant, defiant performances by the dishy duo. They certainly look great in a picture that is clean and sharp in the extreme. The soundtrack has gunfire raging around the room in a convincing, demo-quality 5.1-channel mix. Three commentaries, though informative, are overkill. They're joined by a promotional featurette and deleted scenes. [PG-13] English, Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1; French and Spanish, Dolby Surround; letterboxed (2.35:1) and anamorphic widescreen; dual layer.
