This six-disc set brings us 12 more one-hour episodes of dust, grime, and backstabbing from our favorite obscenity-ridden Wild West outpost. Given the show's color palette, there's not much chance for bright tones, but you'll see more shades of brown and gray than you knew existed. The high level of detail drops off only slightly in shadow areas. The Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack usually stays front and center, with only the occasional ambient effect providing any movement. Stars Timothy Olyphant and Ian McShane are standouts on the cast-and-crew commentaries (which accompany nine of the episodes), with a very different sort of chemistry than they exhibit onscreen. The sixth disc is devoted to making-of featurettes and historical documentaries. Don't miss the piece on Keone Young, the surprisingly articulate man behind fan-favorite Mr. Wu. [NR] English, Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Surround; French and Spanish, Dolby Digital stereo; letterboxed (1.78:1) and anamorphic widescreen; six dual-layer discs.
