In gentler hands, this story of a man who receives a remote to control his life might have been amusing, sweet, and instructive. But Adam Sandler's crude mugging and bad taste make that impossible. Christopher Walken's romp as mad scientist and angel of death Morty is worth watching, but that's about all. Shot in high-def video, the colors never look true. Some scenes are bathed in an artificial golden glow, others in frigid blue. Sound is fine - big, bold, and nicely focused, with the surround channels putting out plenty of ambience and panning effects. The commentary contains more Sandler self-indulgence, the seven featurettes are of only fleeting interest, and the four deleted scenes are worse than the feature (which is saying something). [PG-13] English and French, Dolby Digital 5.1; letterboxed (1.85:1) and anamorphic widescreen; dual layer.
