The CES news bombs have started dropping and Vizio is on the front lines with some ambitious announcements. Their XVT series is getting three new additions in the form of a 47-inch, a 55-inch and a monsterous 72-inch, each running at 480 Hz and boasting 3D and wireless HD compatibility. They have built-in 802.11N WiFi and use Vizio's full-array, local dimming TrueLED backlighting. The spec list is impressive for sure, especially when you consider the price: The 72-inch costs just $3,500, while the 55-inch and 47-inch come in at $2,499 and $1,999, respectively. They all come with the QWERTY, Bluetooth universal remote designed for the Vizio Internet Apps.
The other addition to their line-up is a 58-inch Razor LED Smart Dimming Cinema Display which sports an extra-wide 21x9 aspect ration. Its native 2560 x 1080 resolution is designed to take the black bars out of the equation when watching 2.35:1 films. This one doesn't do 3D and runs at 120 Hz, but it retains the WiFi and Bluetooth QWERTY remote. They haven't released the price yet, but it's scheduled to drop later this year.
It will be interesting to see if Vizio can pack in all those features and actually get all of them right. But, at the somewhat ludicrous prices they're touting, I'm willing to bet consumers will give them a little wiggle room. We'll let you know how they look once we get in some eyeball time.
