CD REVIEW: Gretchen Wilson

Granted, "Redneck Woman" Gretchen Wilson's second album doesn't generate quite the body heat of her barnbusting debut, Here for the Party. It's no pooper, though, as you can hear in country-rocking stompers like the barroom-brawl-in' title track, the Paris Hilton-dissing "California Girls," and the (why hadn't anyone thought of this title before) instant on-tap classic "One Bud Wiser." Yes, the mustard does get slathered on pretty thick for the trailer-trash-talkers "Politically Uncorrect" and "Not Bad for a Bartender." Overall, though, Wilson's friends-in-low-places approach continues to be a welcome thumb-to-nose retort to Nashville's suburban-sprawl notions of what keeps things country these days. All together now: Yee-haw!
