So, how do you propose routing the LFE channel to both the subwoofer and the front L/R speakers? Very few AVRs or pre/pros will allow this. Very few. If you think that the 'LFE+Main' or 'Plus' setting does this, it does NOT. And, even if you could do this, it is bad advice, for several reasons.

That said, if routing the LFE channel to the sub and front speakers simultaneously WAS your goal, you COULD do it by configuring an AVR as having no subwoofer connected (which will reroute the LFE channel into the LARGE front channels) and connecting the subwoofer to the AVR's front channel pre-outs (provided the AVR was so-equipped). Then the front speakers and subwoofer would both receive a mix of front channel bass, the LFE channel, and any bass from any channels that might be configured as SMALL.

I have seen receivers and/or processors that allow simultaneous routing of LFE into the sub and the mains, but I can't recall which ones. Sorry - I've reviewed a lot of receivers and processors, and encountered a lot more when I was working at Dolby, and after a few years they all blur into one.

Another alternative not discussed in the article is if you have powered towers that have a line-level LFE input (models from Definitive Technology come immediately to mind). These can easily be paralleled with a subwoofer.
