When Stan Lee penned the first Thor comic book for what would become Marvel Comics, he probably couldn’t have imagined that almost 50 years later, his Norse superhero (based on the mythological god of thunder) would hit the silver screen — in IMAX3D no less. The result is a big swinging hunk of modern movie myth-making.

File this one under Wasted Potential. The Green Hornet does have plenty of visual style, courtesy of director Michel Gondry. It also has the likable Seth Rogen as the title character, the awesome Christoph Waltz (Oscar winner for Inglourious Basterds) as the bad guy, and Cameron Diaz as the brainy eye candy.

What if you saw your best friend’s wife cheating on him? Should you tell him? It’s an interesting premise that might fuel either a dramatic movie or a comedic one. Which one? Director Ron Howard hasn’t solved that dilemma, coming up with a film that isn’t funny enough to be a comedy nor dark enough (in its entirety) to be a drama.
